We were thrilled to see the last pieces of charred larch go up on site recently – its beautiful, dynamic texture never fails to evoke a sense of awe. Here are our latest update photos from the site.
Watching the light from the lush native trees dance on the larch only adds to its dynamism.
As each piece of larch has been hand charred on site, every board is as unique as a finger print. Take a look back at our earlier post to find out how and why we carefully hand charred our Siberian Larch from BBS Timbers.
Larch is used as cladding for all entry points into the house – one of the largest walls of this is under the carport (above). This gives the future owners an up close and personal interaction with the larch every time they enter the side door. We chose a frosted single glass pane from Nulook, to give natural light to the garage, while maintaining privacy.
The dark tones of the charred timber are met with the monolithic plane of James Hardie EasyLap cladding, finished with Resene Sandtex textured coating. This has been used on any walls not clad in larch, as well as the soffits (overhangs, as seen above).
We are now waiting for the final aluminum joinery units to be installed, and the finishing touches to be put on the roof and flashings.
