Project: Sawtooth Concept.
Context: Gently rolling semi-rural section.
Brief: A modern, multi-winged home that a professional couple can eventually retire too. A layout that works perfectly for just the two of them, but equally as well when family and friends come to stay. A design with architectural presence that achieves privacy from the road, blocks out unwanted views, and accentuates the favorable ones. Communal spaces that effortlessly connect with outdoor living areas.
Response: From the road, the dwelling appears as a simple timber rectangle, the entirety of which is sheathed with the delicate slat screen facade. Rooms in this front wing will receive ample light through the screen, while achieving much needed privacy. Elegant, restrained, and intriguing, the building reveals itself on approach from the SE. Three separate wings (master, communal, guest) form a sawtooth-like layout, with the cutout spaces providing seamlessly connected outdoor living areas and planted courtyards.
