On the outskirts of Greytown, down a long winding driveway, is a clearing in the trees. Close your eyes and the sound of birdsong and the wind whispering through the Totara engulfs the senses. It is here that our clients envisaged ‘the good life’ – a house in the country they could come and go from with ease, and perhaps one day, stay forever. After working through a detailed, collaborative design process, matching them with their builder, and guiding them through the entire construction process, the vision has become a reality. Now well and truly settled, with the landscaping complete, and the gardens bearing fruit, we returned to capture the magic of this place, to listen to the birdsong, and reflect on what we have collectively achieved: Woodsong.

April 2024

“James and Susie from Mackit Architecture were brilliant to work with, right from our initial conversation. We felt so confident that they understood what we wanted and that we shared a common view on aesthetics and practicalities. We didn’t feel the need to contact any other designers; the decision to choose Mackit was an easy one.

From initial concept to final sign-off, the design process went very smoothly, with very few major iterations required. Mackit Architecture offered suggestions, they listened, they provided sound response to our ideas. James’ background as a builder meant that everything was seen through a very practical lens. James continued to have oversight of the project and made regular site visits to ensure everything was on track.

We couldn’t be happier with the outcome. The design of the house, the excellent building team that James recommended we use and the relatively smooth building process (despite Covid interruptions), resulted in us being very happy clients. We would thoroughly recommend Mackit Architecture to anybody who wants a beautiful and practical home that sits perfectly in its natural environment.”
